The Hernando County Clerk of Circuit Court & Comptroller provides a case-search route for criminal court cases. The clerk separates Circuit Felony, Misdemeanor and Criminal Traffic matters. Use the case category, defendant name and any known case number to narrow the result before requesting copies.
Know which criminal category you are looking for
The clerk describes Circuit Felony matters as crimes punishable by prison and notes that serious traffic offenses can also fall there. Misdemeanors are heard in county court and can carry up to one year in county jail. Criminal Traffic matters are traffic cases punishable by jail; the clerk cautions that most traffic tickets are not criminal cases.
This category distinction helps prevent a missed result caused by searching the wrong record type.
Turn a case hit into the document you actually need
A docket or case-search screen is useful for locating the matter, but a certified or plain copy is the better record when you must prove what the court filed or decided. Hernando’s copy-request form lists court-file copies at $1 per page and certifications at $2 each. Use the case number and name, and specify the document or the entire file rather than making an open-ended request.
Do not confuse “Official Records” with the criminal court file
Hernando’s Official Records search is a separate recording-system service. It can contain recorded instruments, but it is not the criminal court case index. If the task is a felony, misdemeanor or criminal-traffic prosecution, stay with the court-services criminal route unless a specific recorded instrument is independently relevant.
